Main directions / Development of technologies and engineering facilities / Drilling

For more than 10 years on guyot MZh-35 in the Pacific Ocean they have been conducting investigations that include sampling of cobalt manganese crust (CMC) cores. High-grade cores with supports were sampled by drilling. It was only in the two last trips of the research ship Gelendzhik (Yuzhmorgeologia) that 40 CMC cores with supports were sampled from the base rock by the deep-sea drilling rig GBU-0.7/4000 designed in the Sevmorgeo company. The site selection and control of the drilling was performed by a TV system.

Deep-sea Drilling Rig GBU – 0.7

GBU-0.7 is for rotation drilling to the depth of up to 1 m in rocks, strength categories from 4 to 11, to be used for geological prospecting at the sea depth between 10 and 4000 m. The installation can be equipped with a cable TV system and has got remote control.
