Main directions / Engineering-geological investigation / Investigation of physical and mechanical properties / UGI-M

In 2002 was started  a new deep-sea geotechnical bottom installation. For continuity purposes the project got the name of UGI-M (bottom penetration installation). The UGI-M is a significantly upgraded UGI prototype. All assemblies and devices have been upgraded starting with tester drives and share vane strength tester up to the data relay channel and TV cable line image. The UGI-M installation uses electro-mechanical screw drive moving the cone resistance to the depth of 1.8 m. The share vane strength tester is set deeper by 0.4 m and makes a 200ْ turn also with  electro-mechanical drive support. The installation is equipped with a cone penetrator. It is controlled from the computer terminal aboard a ship. Measurement transmission is in real-time mode and converts into traditional geotechnical visual form. The installation is equipped with a digital photo and video camera for selection of a photo spot and getting a photo recording, as well as with three TV cameras to control operation of the devices. It is planned to complete development of the UGI-M installation by the end of 2004.
